Why Youdh

What is oud attar?

Attar is a traditional, oil-based perfume made by distilling natural materials, flowers, spices or wood, into a carrier oil without any alcohol. Oud attar is attar built specifically around oud, the resin of the agarwood tree, rather than a floral or spice base. The two words describe format and material: attar tells you how it's made, oud tells you what it's made from. YOUDH's oils are oud attars in the truest sense, real agarwood oil, blended without alcohol in small UK batches, carrying forward a tradition that predates the modern spray bottle by centuries.

Attar in daily practice

A tradition worn into everyday life, not saved for special occasions.

01

Wudu-Safe

Because attar contains no alcohol, many wearers apply it without the concerns that can come with alcohol-based spray around prayer and ablution. It sits on the skin rather than needing to be washed away or reasoned about.

02

Prayer

Attar has traditionally been worn ahead of prayer, valued for both its concentration and its alcohol-free formulation. A single drop applied beforehand carries through a full prayer session without needing to be reapplied.

03

Gifting

A small bottle of attar is a considered, personal gift, especially around Eid, weddings and family visits. Its alcohol-free formulation makes it a safe, appropriate choice across a wide range of recipients and occasions.

CUSTOMER TESTIMONIALS

What people say after ~30 Days.

We follow up with every customer... here's some of what comes back:

“Youdh has really changed my perspective on perfume oils actually being 100% natural. This has been the only pure oil that doesn’t smell like a farm and actually lasts without any issues. I recommend this to my family and friends, and if they don’t buy it, I just gift it.”

Funny Face
“I’ve tried many perfumes which irritate my skin and affect my asthma. I’m now an avid Youdh consumer. My preferred scent is Light during the cold days and Night during the warm days… I love the recently adjusted Youdh Light, the scent lasts much longer. 100% recommend…”

Beau B
“Of the two fragrances I tried, I preferred ‘Light’. This fragrance was less powerful and fresher than ‘Night’. Looking forward to trying other fragrances from this company in the future.”

Gary Scholes
“Test Kit: Beautiful fragrance, well packaged. Arrived in good time. Yet to try the incense. I will be purchasing a full size once I make my mind up! 😁☺️”

Lisa Francis
“It was an easy site to navigate and order from. I bought the 3ml bottles as a trial. I like the light scent, not sure about the night scent yet. So far they don’t irritate my smell senses, as past scents give me allergy type symptoms.”

Gillian
“Youdh is a beautiful company. Their integrity shines through every aspect of their work: website, packaging and delivery, and the beautiful samples they sent me. The product is pure and smells delicious and authentic, uncontaminated by chemicals.”

Ms KF
“Finally, a company that delivers genuine, natural Oud. It’s easy to see why they call this ‘Black Gold.’ The fragrance is rich, complex, and incredibly long-lasting. You can tell it’s made with the finest ingredients. Easily my favorite perfume house. 5 stars all the way!”

Israfil Rahman
“I bought the tester package as I wasn’t sure if I would like the two perfumes, I’m glad I did! I love the Light perfume oil, it is certainly something I could wear every day. I will definitely purchase from Youdh again, I have been impressed with their customer service.”

Madasa Hatta
“Finally found a fragrance that doesn’t give me rhinitis. Both work well. The sample bottles are great sizes for travel abroad and last an incredible amount of time. I look forward to more fragrances released by yourselves and would be happy to continue to support.”

Usman
“I have been using Youdh Light for just over three weeks now and absolutely love it! Something about this fragrance is so homely. Only one drop in the morning and it lasts strongly for most of the day. I love that this is an eco conscious product, with no nasties.”

Lauren Mason
“This perfume is incredible !! I have crazy perfume allergies and have been longing to wear a nice perfume for ages – found Youdh and it’s been really great – doesn’t trigger my eczema at all and you only need a tiny drop to smell great for the whole day”

Holly
“It has such a clear and strong distinctive scent it’s honestly amazing that this is crafted by 1 person. A natural perfume that I haven’t received any head aches with considering I’m pretty sensitive to most fragrances and even ouds.”

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Still have questions?

Is attar halal?

Attar itself contains no alcohol, which is one reason it has been worn for prayer and daily life across Muslim cultures for centuries. Scholars hold differing views on whether alcohol-based perfume is permissible to wear externally. Attar avoids that question entirely by being alcohol-free from the start, which is why many wearers choose it when they want certainty either way.

Is attar the same as oud?

Not quite. Attar is the broader traditional category, oil-based perfume distilled from flowers, spices or wood into a carrier base, historically sandalwood. Oud is one specific raw material within that tradition, the resin of the agarwood tree. An oud attar is attar built specifically around oud rather than a floral or spice base, which is what every YOUDH oil is.

How is attar applied?

Apply a single drop directly to a pulse point, such as the wrist, neck or behind the ear, and let it warm into the skin rather than rubbing it in. Attar is highly concentrated, so one drop is usually enough; a second drop on a different pulse point extends the wear without overwhelming the first.

Does attar contain alcohol?

No, not when it is a genuine attar. Traditional attar is distilled without alcohol at any stage, using water and heat rather than an ethanol carrier. Some modern products marketed loosely as ‘attar-style’ oils do include a small alcohol content, so it is worth checking the ingredient list if alcohol-free matters to you. Every YOUDH oud attar is 100% alcohol-free.

What makes a real attar?

Real attar is defined by how it’s made, not just what’s in the bottle. The traditional method, known as deg and bhapka, distils flowers, spices or wood using water and heat inside copper vessels, with the fragrant vapour condensing directly into a carrier oil rather than a chemical solvent. No alcohol enters the process at any stage. That absence is part of why attar has held such a lasting place across Muslim and South Asian traditions: for wearers who choose to avoid alcohol-based fragrance, attar removes the question entirely rather than working around it. YOUDH’s oud attars follow that same alcohol-free principle, built around real oud oil rather than a floral or spice base, blended in small UK batches.

At YOUDH™ we pride ourselves with 100% Natural, Non-Allergen, Non-Hormone Disrupting Premium grade fragrance oils.
