Oud comes from Agarwood, formed when an agar tree becomes infected and produces resin. This resin protects the tree and creates the scent we know as oud.
The resin forms in species like Aquilaria malaccensis and other Aquilaria tree varieties. Oud has been referenced since the ninth century, appearing in religious texts and even the Song of Songs.
Oud originates mainly from Southeast Asia, including Vietnam, Sri Lanka, and parts of South Asia. It is also deeply connected to the Middle East and Middle Eastern culture, especially in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
