Why Youdh

What is Bakhoor?

Bakhoor is a blend of natural wood chips, often agarwood, soaked in fragrance oil and dried, then burned over charcoal or an electric burner to release warm, smoky incense through a room. It has been part of Gulf hospitality and home ritual for centuries, used to scent clothing, greet guests and mark quiet family and religious routines. YOUDH bakhoor is hand-blended in the UK in the same two profiles as our oils, Night and Light, so the room you scent can match the oud you wear. Below is our full bakhoor range, along with the burning method that gets the most from it.

How to burn Bakhoor

01

Light your charcoal disc and let it heat until it glows fully grey, or switch on your electric burner and let it reach temperature. This takes a few minutes either way.

02

Place two to three bakhoor chips onto the charcoal or into the burner’s heating dish. Start small, you can always add more.

03

Let the chips smoke rather than flame. Set the burner on a stable, heatproof surface away from curtains, papers, and other flammable items.

04

Let the smoke fill the room naturally, or carry the burner briefly through the space if you want the scent to reach further.

05

Extinguish safely. Let charcoal burn out fully in a heatproof container, or switch off the electric burner and allow it to cool before moving it.

Safety note: never leave a lit charcoal disc or electric burner unattended, and always burn bakhoor in a well-ventilated room on a heat-resistant surface. London Fire Brigade’s home fire safety guidance on candles, incense and oil burners applies equally to bakhoor.

CUSTOMER TESTIMONIALS

What people say after ~30 Days.

We follow up with every customer... here's some of what comes back:

“Youdh has really changed my perspective on perfume oils actually being 100% natural. This has been the only pure oil that doesn’t smell like a farm and actually lasts without any issues. I recommend this to my family and friends, and if they don’t buy it, I just gift it.”

Funny Face
“I’ve tried many perfumes which irritate my skin and affect my asthma. I’m now an avid Youdh consumer. My preferred scent is Light during the cold days and Night during the warm days… I love the recently adjusted Youdh Light, the scent lasts much longer. 100% recommend…”

Beau B
“Of the two fragrances I tried, I preferred ‘Light’. This fragrance was less powerful and fresher than ‘Night’. Looking forward to trying other fragrances from this company in the future.”

Gary Scholes
“Test Kit: Beautiful fragrance, well packaged. Arrived in good time. Yet to try the incense. I will be purchasing a full size once I make my mind up! 😁☺️”

Lisa Francis
“It was an easy site to navigate and order from. I bought the 3ml bottles as a trial. I like the light scent, not sure about the night scent yet. So far they don’t irritate my smell senses, as past scents give me allergy type symptoms.”

Gillian
“Youdh is a beautiful company. Their integrity shines through every aspect of their work: website, packaging and delivery, and the beautiful samples they sent me. The product is pure and smells delicious and authentic, uncontaminated by chemicals.”

Ms KF
“Finally, a company that delivers genuine, natural Oud. It’s easy to see why they call this ‘Black Gold.’ The fragrance is rich, complex, and incredibly long-lasting. You can tell it’s made with the finest ingredients. Easily my favorite perfume house. 5 stars all the way!”

Israfil Rahman
“I bought the tester package as I wasn’t sure if I would like the two perfumes, I’m glad I did! I love the Light perfume oil, it is certainly something I could wear every day. I will definitely purchase from Youdh again, I have been impressed with their customer service.”

Madasa Hatta
“Finally found a fragrance that doesn’t give me rhinitis. Both work well. The sample bottles are great sizes for travel abroad and last an incredible amount of time. I look forward to more fragrances released by yourselves and would be happy to continue to support.”

Usman
“I have been using Youdh Light for just over three weeks now and absolutely love it! Something about this fragrance is so homely. Only one drop in the morning and it lasts strongly for most of the day. I love that this is an eco conscious product, with no nasties.”

Lauren Mason
“This perfume is incredible !! I have crazy perfume allergies and have been longing to wear a nice perfume for ages – found Youdh and it’s been really great – doesn’t trigger my eczema at all and you only need a tiny drop to smell great for the whole day”

Holly
“It has such a clear and strong distinctive scent it’s honestly amazing that this is crafted by 1 person. A natural perfume that I haven’t received any head aches with considering I’m pretty sensitive to most fragrances and even ouds.”

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Questions people ask before buying Bakhoor

Can't find what you're after? Our team replies to every
message!

Still have questions?

What is bakhoor made of?

Bakhoor is traditionally made from wood chips, often agarwood, soaked in a blend of fragrance oils and natural resins, then dried so the chips release scent when heated. YOUDH bakhoor follows this same wood-and-oil tradition, hand-blended in the UK around real oud oil rather than synthetic fragrance.

How long does bakhoor burn?

A few chips on a charcoal disc or in an electric burner typically smoke for 20 to 40 minutes per session, though the scent lingers on fabric and in a room for hours afterward. A 20g pack holds enough chips for multiple sessions; burn only two or three chips at a time.

Is bakhoor safe to burn indoors?

Yes, with the same precautions as any incense or candle. Burn it in a ventilated room, on a heat-resistant surface away from curtains and soft furnishings, and never leave a lit charcoal disc or electric burner unattended.

Bakhoor vs oud oil, what is the difference?

Bakhoor is burned and fills a room with smoke-carried scent. Oud oil is worn directly on skin and creates a personal, close scent with no smoke at all. Bakhoor suits gatherings, guests and home ritual; oud oil suits everyday personal wear. Many YOUDH customers use both, oil on the skin and bakhoor for the home, in matching Night or Light profiles.

When is Bakhoor used?

Bakhoor is woven into the rhythm of Gulf and wider Muslim life rather than reserved for special occasions alone. Many households burn it before Friday prayers, filling the home with a clean scent to mark the start of the week’s most significant day. It is central to Ramadan evenings and Eid morning preparations, when homes are scented ahead of family visits and celebration. In a majlis, the sitting area where guests are received, bakhoor is often passed around so each visitor can scent their clothing directly in the smoke, a small but meaningful gesture of hospitality. Burning bakhoor for arriving guests, whether for a quiet family visit or a larger gathering, remains one of the most consistent uses of the tradition today.

At YOUDH™ we pride ourselves with 100% Natural, Non-Allergen, Non-Hormone Disrupting Premium grade fragrance oils.
